The pot, being just a simple cooking tool, had next to no enchantment charge. Just fifty points, but with a twenty-five-point activation cost, that left it with just two uses before it fizzled out.

That was fine. The effect duration was still decent and, if things went my way, I’d only have to use it once, anyway.

Mist rose to her feet, curious about what I was doing. Without a word, I reached out and took her by the waist, closing my arm around her hips, and pulled her close.

She let out the faintest gasp as I pulled her toward me.

“Quiet,” I whispered.

She cocked an eyebrow. “Glover, what’s wrong?”

I slid my hand down to one of the daggers on her hip and pulled it from the sheath. She shivered a bit as I did this, as I was still holding her tight.
